We have developed some co-production training to address the need for the involvement of service receivers and carers when changes are made to mental health services.
The training was delivered to key individuals involved in redesigning mental health services on the 3rd Jan 2018, and covered all the stages of the engagement and consultation process, i.e. from stating the case for change, through to public consultation. It looked at the opportunities for co-production at each stage, and the methods that could be used, e.g. during option development. It was very well received, with 93% of participants reporting an increase in knowledge of the principles of effective co-production. The commissioners have highlighted areas that they would like to look at in more depth, and plans will be put together to provide further training sessions.
We all look forward to co-production being used more widely in the future.
